Polish Vodka Exports Surge in 2025

Poland's vodka export revenues grew 18.4% in 2025 to reach a record €2.1 billion — the strongest annual performance in the category's modern history, and a figure that cements Poland's position as the world's most valuable vodka-exporting nation.

The Details

Data published by the Polish Spirits Industry Association shows that premium and super-premium expressions drove the bulk of the revenue growth, even as overall export volume increased by a more modest 6.1% by litres shipped. The divergence between volume and value growth is telling: Poland is selling more vodka, but more importantly, it is selling more expensive vodka.

Belvedere, now part of the LVMH portfolio, reported its strongest export year on record with particular growth in the US, Japan, and the Gulf markets. Chopin saw its US export volumes increase 31% following its Supreme Champion win at the International Spirits Challenge in December. Zubrowka — the iconic bison grass expression — benefited from increased distribution in Southeast Asia, a market that had previously been underserved.

"The Polish vodka story is finally being told with the sophistication it deserves," said Marek Jakubowski, President of the Polish Spirits Industry Association. "We are not just exporting alcohol. We are exporting 600 years of distilling culture, agricultural knowledge, and a deep commitment to rye as a flavour vehicle."

The United Kingdom remains Poland's second-largest export market by value, despite post-Brexit customs complexity adding an estimated 8–12% to logistics costs for smaller producers.

Industry Context

Poland produces approximately 500 million litres of vodka annually, making it the world's third-largest producer by volume behind Russia and the United States. What distinguishes Poland is the quality concentration at the top of the market: the country holds more gold medals at international spirits competitions per litre produced than any other major vodka nation.

The Protected Geographical Indication for "Polska Wódka" — which requires production from Polish grain or potato, distillation in Poland, and adherence to traditional methods — has proved a significant commercial asset. Producers operating under the PGI saw export value growth of 23% in 2025, materially outperforming the broader category average.

What's Next

Polish producers are targeting aggressive growth in China and India over the next three years, markets where premium spirits consumption is expanding rapidly but Polish vodka penetration remains relatively low. A collective export promotion programme, co-funded by the Polish government and eleven leading producers, launched in January 2026 with a combined marketing budget of €45 million — the largest coordinated promotional effort in the category's history.
