Heritage & Distillery
Elit represents the absolute pinnacle of Stolichnaya's considerable distilling capabilities — a vodka produced using a patented freeze-filtration technique that chills the spirit to minus eighteen degrees Celsius before passing it through a series of precision filters. The theory is straightforward: at extreme cold, impurities that remain dissolved at normal temperatures become solid and can be removed through filtration, producing a spirit of exceptional purity. The practice, evidently, is rather more challenging — the technique was developed over many years and remains unique to the Elit brand.
The base spirit itself is a blend of wheat and rye, combining the sweetness and smoothness of wheat with the spice and character of rye, and the quadruple distillation achieves a level of refinement that the freeze-filtration then elevates to something genuinely extraordinary.
Production & Tasting
On the nose, Elit is pristine and elegant — soft vanilla and white pepper present with an extraordinary clarity that is the unmistakable signature of the freeze-filtration process. There is nothing extraneous, nothing distracting — only the purest expression of a superbly made spirit.
The palate is exceptionally smooth and pure, with creamy vanilla, subtle citrus, and an almost ethereal silkiness that places Elit among the most texturally refined vodkas in the world. The weight on the palate is perfect — substantial enough to convey quality, light enough to convey elegance — and the overall impression is of a spirit that has achieved the rare feat of being both supremely smooth and subtly complex. The finish is long, clean, and effortlessly elegant.
Verdict
Elit is one of the world's finest vodkas — a spirit that justifies its ultra-premium pricing through genuine innovation and extraordinary quality. The freeze-filtration technique produces a purity that no conventional filtration can match, and the base spirit of blended wheat and rye provides sufficient character to prevent the purity from becoming sterile. At £52.25, it is an investment, but one that rewards generously. Nine out of ten, and a landmark achievement in vodka production.
