Heritage
Wyborowa is one of Poland's oldest vodka brands, with a history stretching back to the sixteenth century and a name that translates, with characteristic Polish directness, as "exquisite." This cherry vodka liqueur represents a departure from the brand's core rye-based offerings, employing cherries grown along the banks of the Vistula River — a region whose microclimate and fertile soils have supported cherry cultivation for centuries. The product sits at the intersection of vodka and liqueur, its twenty-eight per cent ABV placing it firmly in the latter category regardless of the branding.
Tasting Notes
The nose presents sweet cherry with supporting notes of marzipan, light almond, and a faint trace of the rye grain base that anchors Wyborowa's identity. On the palate, the spirit is sweet and fruity — cherry compote rather than fresh fruit — with soft almond notes contributing a familiar Eastern European confectionery character. The body is smooth and liqueur-weight, pleasant and easy-drinking without offering the complexity or depth that would distinguish a premium product.
The finish is short to medium, with the cherry sweetness fading to a hint of warmth. This is an uncomplicated spirit designed for mixing — over ice with soda, in a cherry sour, or as a component in fruity cocktails — and it performs that role with adequate efficiency at a very competitive price point.
Verdict
Wyborowa Cherry is a perfectly acceptable cherry vodka liqueur that benefits from the brand's long-established rye base and genuine Polish heritage. It lacks the depth and natural fruit character of the best cherry spirits, but at this price it represents reasonable value for casual drinking and simple cocktails.
