Brand & Concept
Helix 7 brings together two premium provenance claims in a single spirit — wheat from the Champagne region of France and water from Iceland, two ingredients whose geographical cachet is considerable and whose practical contribution to the finished spirit is rather more subtle than the marketing might suggest. The wheat provides the familiar smooth, neutral character associated with French wheat vodkas, while the Icelandic water — famous for its purity and low mineral content — contributes a clean, crisp quality to the final blend. Carbon filtration between distillation and blending provides additional polish.
Tasting Notes
The nose is clean and fresh — wheat, subtle citrus, cool mineral notes, and a whisper of fresh herbs comprising the principal elements. There is a crispness here that one might attribute to the Icelandic water, though the contribution of water sourcing to aroma is, in practice, debatable. On the palate, Helix 7 is fresh and vibrant, with crisp wheat character and a minerality that does seem consistent with the Icelandic water claim. The body is light and clean, the profile uncluttered and refreshing — a vodka designed to serve as a cocktail foundation rather than a sipping spirit.
The finish is short to medium, crisp and clean, with a cool mineral fade. At thirty-seven and a half per cent, the spirit is lighter than the forty per cent standard, which limits its authority somewhat but contributes to the refreshing, accessible character that the brand evidently seeks.
Verdict
Helix 7 is a well-made, accessibly priced vodka that delivers on its promise of freshness and vibrancy. The Champagne wheat and Icelandic water provenance claims are attractive, and the liquid quality supports them adequately if not spectacularly. A strong cocktail base at a fair price.
