Heritage & Distillery
Blu Lie emerges from Italy — not a country traditionally associated with vodka production, but one whose artisan spirits sector has expanded considerably in recent years. The vodka is distilled from wheat and blended with spring water from Val Rosandra, a protected nature reserve near Trieste whose water source is prized for its exceptional purity and mineral balance. The Trieste connection places Blu Lie at a cultural crossroads between Italian, Slovenian, and Austrian traditions — a provenance that is faintly reflected in the spirit's clean, Alpine character.
Tasting Notes
The nose is delicate and appealing — wildflowers, freshly cut grass, clean wheat, and a subtle mineral freshness that speaks of the Val Rosandra spring water. On the palate, the vodka is crisp and clean with floral notes, gentle wheat sweetness, and a grassy herbaceousness that gives it a distinctly Mediterranean personality. The mineral quality of the water contributes a light, refreshing character that runs through the entire tasting experience. The finish is short to medium, clean and crisp with a fresh, floral fade.
The Serve
Blu Lie is well-suited to aperitivo-style serves — over ice with a slice of lemon and a sprig of fresh basil, or in a Vodka Spritz with prosecco and a dash of elderflower cordial. Its delicate floral profile also makes it an interesting choice for a summer Martini.
Verdict
At seven out of ten, Blu Lie is a pleasant and distinctive Italian vodka that benefits from its unusual provenance and the quality of its water source. It lacks the depth and complexity of the finest Eastern European offerings, but its lightness and floral character make it an appealing warm-weather spirit and a welcome addition to the Italian craft spirits movement.
