Heritage & Distillery
Absolut occupies a position in the vodka world that few brands in any spirits category can claim — it is simultaneously a mass-market product of extraordinary commercial success and a spirit of genuine quality whose production standards have remained remarkably consistent since Lars Olsson Smith introduced continuous distillation to the Swedish spirits industry in 1879. Produced in Åhus, in southern Sweden, using locally grown winter wheat and water from a deep well source, Absolut has been in continuous production under its current name since 1979, and its stylish, innovative marketing campaigns — from Andy Warhol to the present day — have become as much a part of popular culture as the spirit itself.
The Pernod Ricard acquisition in 2008 embedded Absolut within one of the world's largest spirits portfolios, but the production philosophy — single-source wheat, single-source water, and a commitment to distilling and bottling in the same location — remains unchanged. This is a brand whose consistency is its defining virtue.
Production & Tasting
On the nose, Absolut is clean and subtle — soft wheat grain presents first, followed by a hint of dried fruit and delicate citrus peel. It is not a nose of great complexity, but it is one of admirable composure, and the absence of any harshness or deficiency speaks well of the production process.
The palate is smooth and medium-bodied, with wheat sweetness providing a gentle backbone, white pepper adding a touch of warmth, and an overall character that is rounded and well-integrated. Absolut is not a vodka that demands attention, but it delivers quietly reliable quality with every pour. The finish is medium and clean, with gentle grain warmth fading smoothly.
Verdict
Absolut is the benchmark against which mainstream premium vodkas should be measured. It is not the most characterful, the most complex, or the most exciting vodka on the market, but it is consistently well-made, reliably smooth, and excellent value at £21.75. As a cocktail base, it is hard to fault — versatile, clean, and sufficiently neutral to let other ingredients shine. A deserved icon.

Nice but slightly overpriced
7/10
Good quality spirit but slightly overpriced for what it is. The subtle dried fruit is the highlight — Clean winter wheat and well-presented. On the palate, the Smooth and medium-bodied with wheat sweetness is fine but not exciting. At $20, I'd expect more character. The clean with a gentle grain warmth is pleasant but brief. A reliable mixer.

As someone who's been appreciating quality vodka for years, this is among the finest I've encountered at this price point. On the nose I get grain sweetness — let it warm slightly in the glass and the aromas open up. The palate is where it really shines: Smooth and medium-bodied with wheat sweetness with beautiful texture. The Absolut Company / Pernod Ricard has clearly mastered their craft.

Not terrible but not worth the premium. The nose promised Clean winter wheat and subtle dried fruit, but the palate is flat and the clean with a gentle grain warmth disappears too quickly. I've had better vodkas at half the price. The Smooth and medium-bodied with wheat sweetness the review describes wasn't apparent to me. Perhaps I got a bad bottle.

Decent everyday vodka

A reliable pour that won't blow your mind but does the job. The nose has Clean winter wheat — the review is accurate there. The palate gives you Smooth and medium-bodied with wheat sweetness, which is fine but a bit safe. I keep reaching for other bottles when I want to sip neat, but for cocktails it's hard to complain. The clean with a gentle grain warmth is clean.

Solid middle-of-the-road

It's a solid vodka. The nose has Clean winter wheat and subtle dried fruit, but on the palate the Smooth and medium-bodied with wheat sweetness doesn't quite deliver the complexity I was hoping for. The Medium is a bit brief. Still enjoyable though — I keep reaching for it when making cocktails rather than sipping neat.

I can see why people rate this but it's not quite my favourite. The Clean winter wheat is clean — really approachable — but the palate is a touch too neutral for my preferences. The Smooth and medium-bodied with wheat sweetness is smooth and easy, which makes it good for vodka newcomers. I was expecting a bit more character given the editorial score.

Absolut Vodka is outstanding
8/10
The nose on this is lovely — I immediately got subtle dried fruit and grain sweetness. On the palate, the Smooth and medium-bodied with wheat sweetness is beautifully done, and the Medium. I agree with the editorial review — this is a seriously impressive vodka. Tried it neat at room temperature first, then chilled from the freezer. Both excellent, but neat at room temp shows off the character better.

Good but not great
7/10
Decent vodka for the price. The nose is clean — I got the subtle dried fruit that the review mentions — but the palate didn't wow me. The dried fruit is fine but nothing special, and I'd have preferred more character coming through. That said, the clean with a gentle grain warmth is clean enough. Works well in cocktails where you don't need a premium bottle.

What a beautifully crafted spirit. The nose gives you dried fruit and delicate citrus peel, and on the palate it's all about a rounded. The mouthfeel is particularly impressive — silky, full, and rewarding. The finish rounds everything off with balanced fade. Anyone who says all vodka tastes the same hasn't tried this. The review here nails it.

A real gem

Picked this up after reading the review here and it's everything they said and more. The grain sweetness drew me in from the first pour. On the palate, white pepper are elegant rather than aggressive — exactly what you want from a quality vodka. The clean with a gentle grain warmth is clean and inviting. Makes a brilliant Martini and equally good sipped neat. This will be a permanent fixture on my shelf.

I keep coming back to this bottle and appreciating the subtlety. The grain sweetness on the nose is genuinely there if you take a moment to notice. On the palate, white pepper is rich and satisfying, with Well-balanced and versatile developing. A vodka that rewards attention. At 40% ABV, the proof is perfectly judged.

One of the most well-crafted vodkas I've tasted. The subtle dried fruit promises quality, and the palate delivers with white pepper. Nothing feels harsh or out of place. The Medium ties it all together. I tried it neat, chilled, and in a Moscow Mule — it shines in all three. The wheat base gives it a distinctive character. Can't recommend it highly enough.
