Heritage & Distillery

Sheringham Distillery on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, has established itself as one of Canada's most respected craft producers, winning international acclaim for its gin, aquavit, and this foundation vodka — the base spirit from which all of the distillery's other products are derived. The Pacific Northwest location contributes a maritime influence that is genuinely detectable in the finished spirit, and the distillery's commitment to small-batch production ensures that each bottle receives a degree of attention that industrial-scale producers cannot replicate.

Production

The vodka is distilled four times from a grain base, using local Vancouver Island water for dilution. The fourth distillation is conducted at a lower temperature to preserve the subtle flavour compounds — particularly the spicy notes — that give Sheringham its distinctive character. Bottling at 41% ABV provides the spirit with sufficient structure to express its complexity, and charcoal filtration is applied judiciously to smooth without stripping.

Tasting Notes

The nose is spicy and coastal — white pepper, sea salt, subtle juniper, and a clean grain base create an aromatic profile of genuine interest. On the palate, the vodka is smooth and textured, with a distinctive spicy warmth, maritime minerality, sweet grain, and a gentle herbal quality that hints at the botanical spirits for which Sheringham is better known. The finish is medium-long, warm and spicy with coastal saline notes and a clean, dry fade.

The Serve

The spicy character makes Sheringham an interesting Martini vodka — the warmth and maritime notes add complexity to the classic serve. It also works well in a Caesar (Canada's answer to the Bloody Mary), where the coastal character harmonises with the Clamato and Worcestershire sauce.

Verdict

Sheringham Pacific Vodka is a distinctive craft spirit that wears its coastal provenance with conviction. The spicy character and maritime quality set it apart from the cleaner, more neutral styles that dominate the market, and the quality is consistent with the distillery's excellent reputation. A vodka for those who value character over neutrality.

Emily Thomas VIPsAllowed Sheringham Pacific Vodka — Vancouver Island Coastal Craft is outstanding
8/10

The nose on this is lovely — I immediately got sea salt and Spicy and coastal with white pepper. On the palate, the maritime minerality is beautifully done, and the warm and spicy with coastal saline notes and a clean. I agree with the editorial review — this is a seriously impressive vodka. Tried it neat at room temperature first, then chilled from the freezer. Both excellent, but neat at room temp shows off the character better.
