Heritage & Distillery
Where Manly Spirits' Marine Botanical Vodka looks to the ocean for its character, Terra Firma turns its attention to the Australian interior — drawing on native land botanicals and exotic spices to create a spirit that is the Marine's complementary opposite. If the Marine is savoury and oceanic, Terra Firma is sweet and warmly spiced, and together they form a diptych that showcases the extraordinary botanical diversity of the Australian continent.
The native Australian botanicals used in Terra Firma include ingredients that will be unfamiliar to most European drinkers but that have been used by Indigenous Australians for millennia. This is not appropriation but appreciation — Manly Spirits have been transparent about their sourcing and respectful in their use of these ingredients.
Production & Tasting
The nose is rich and inviting — orange peel and cacao nibs present immediately, followed by exotic spice notes and the distinctive aromatic character of native Australian bush herbs. It is a complex and layered profile that rewards repeated nosing and that marks Terra Firma as one of the most aromatically interesting vodkas currently in production.
On the palate, the vodka is sweet and spiced, with orange and cacao providing the primary flavour framework and a rich, nutty warmth adding depth and substance. The texture is beautifully velvety — at 41.6% ABV, the spirit has genuine weight without heaviness — and the overall impression is of a spirit that could hold its own in a tasting alongside aged spirits of far greater complexity. The finish is long and warming, with cacao and orange zest persisting alongside gentle spice.
Verdict
Terra Firma is a remarkable vodka that transcends the conventional boundaries of the category. The native Australian botanicals lend it a character that is wholly unique, the sweet-spiced profile is executed with real skill, and the overall quality of production is exemplary. Spectacular in an Espresso Martini, and genuinely rewarding when sipped neat. Highly recommended.
