Green Moon occupies a peculiar position in the spirits world — part vodka, part absinthe, wholly its own thing. The base is a five-times-distilled, triple-filtered French vodka made from wheat, barley, and hops. To this, they add their own absinthe, crafted from wormwood, fennel, anise, and star anise. The result is unlike anything else on the shelf.
The nose is complex and immediately arresting — aniseed and wormwood lead, with the distinctive hoppy character from the base spirit adding an unusual herbal bitterness. At 45% ABV, there is a genuine intensity here that demands respect.
On the palate, the interplay between clean vodka and aromatic absinthe is genuinely fascinating. The aniseed provides sweetness, the wormwood adds bitterness, and the hops contribute a dry, herbal quality that ties everything together. It is not for everyone, but for those who appreciate both vodka and absinthe, this hybrid delivers handsomely.
At £39.50 for 75cl, Green Moon is priced competitively given the complexity of what is going on inside the bottle. Serve it chilled and neat, or experiment with it in cocktails where you might otherwise reach for absinthe. A Corpse Reviver No. 2 made with this in place of the traditional absinthe rinse is particularly good.
