Heritage & Distillery

Pleasant Land Distillery sits in the rolling countryside of Kent — the Garden of England — where it has access to some of the finest apple-growing land in the British Isles. Eve English Vodka is the distillery's flagship spirit, produced from locally grown Braeburn and Gala apples that are pressed, fermented, and distilled on site. The name is apt: there is something Edenic about the idea of a vodka born entirely from orchard fruit, and the spirit itself has a freshness and purity that honours the biblical allusion without overstating it.

The use of specifically named apple varieties — Braeburn for its crisp acidity and Gala for its gentle sweetness — demonstrates a level of raw material consideration that is refreshingly uncommon in the vodka category. This is a spirit with genuine agricultural provenance, rooted in a specific landscape and a specific tradition of English fruit-growing.

Production

The apples are pressed and fermented before undergoing triple distillation, a process that achieves purity while preserving the subtle fruit character that defines Eve's personality. The distillery's commitment to using locally grown fruit — rather than purchasing neutral spirit and adding flavouring — places Eve squarely in the genuine craft category, a distinction that matters increasingly to consumers alert to the difference between marketing claims and production reality. Charcoal filtration provides the final polish, removing residual impurities without stripping the spirit of its essential character.

Tasting Notes

The nose is immediately appealing — crisp apple, fresh hay, gentle floral notes, and a hint of honeycomb that suggests the Kentish countryside in late summer. On the palate, Eve is beautifully smooth, with bright apple character that is unmistakably natural rather than synthetic. There is a subtle sweetness — not added sugar but the residual impression of fruit — and a clean mineral quality that provides structural backbone. Light and refreshing yet possessed of surprising depth, this is a vodka that flatters both simple highballs and more considered cocktails.

The finish is medium in length, crisp and clean, with lingering orchard fruit and a soft spice that provides a dry counterpoint to the apple's sweetness. An excellent addition to the growing canon of serious English craft spirits.

Verdict

Eve English Vodka is a genuinely delightful spirit that deserves wider recognition. The apple base gives it a distinctive character without compromising its credentials as a versatile, well-made vodka, and the provenance story — Kentish orchard to bottle — is as authentic as any in the British craft spirits landscape. Highly recommended.

5/10

I wanted to like this more than I did. The nose has Crisp apple but on the palate there's a harshness that I wasn't expecting from the review. The Light and refreshing with surprising depth described didn't come through for me. The Medium has a burn where I wanted clean warmth. Others clearly rate it highly so it may be personal preference. Won't be buying another bottle though.
