Heritage & Distillery
Ciroc Summer Citrus is a limited-edition seasonal release from the Diageo-owned French grape vodka brand, part of an ongoing programme of flavoured expressions that has expanded the Ciroc portfolio well beyond its original unflavoured grape vodka. The base spirit — distilled five times from Mauzac Blanc and Ugni Blanc grapes at the Maison Villevert distillery in the South of France — provides a characteristically soft, rounded foundation for the citrus flavouring.
Tasting Notes
The nose is vivid with blood orange, tangerine, lime zest, and a sweet citrus candy quality that is appealing if somewhat uncomplicated. On the palate, the vodka is sweet and citrus-forward — blood orange, lemon, and tangerine dominate, with the soft grape base sweetness providing foundation. It is light-bodied and summery, though somewhat one-dimensional compared to vodkas that achieve citrus character through distillation rather than flavouring. The finish is short with lingering citrus sweetness and a clean, candy-like fade.
The Serve
This is a vodka designed for warm-weather cocktails — a Ciroc Spritz with prosecco and soda, or a simple serve over crushed ice with a squeeze of fresh lime. It is not a sipping vodka, nor does it pretend to be.
Verdict
At six out of ten, Ciroc Summer Citrus delivers on its limited-edition summer promise without exceeding it. The citrus flavouring is pleasant but somewhat confected, and the 37.5% ABV and light body suggest a spirit designed more for easy drinking than for serious appreciation. Within its category — flavoured vodka for seasonal cocktails — it is perfectly competent, but at thirty-three pounds it faces stiff competition from more characterful alternatives.
