Heritage & Distillery
Absolut Vanilia represents one of the more successful entries in the brand's extensive flavoured range, and its particular appeal lies in the restraint with which the vanilla flavouring has been deployed. Where lesser vanilla vodkas tend toward the saccharine and the artificial, Absolut's version manages to deliver recognisable vanilla character — cream soda, ice cream, a gentle caramel sweetness — without surrendering the essential dryness and balance that distinguish a good flavoured vodka from a bad one.
Production & Tasting
On the nose, Vanilia is richly aromatic, with vanilla cream, butterscotch, and gentle caramel sweetness presenting over the familiar Absolut wheat base. The aromatics are inviting rather than overwhelming, and the vanilla reads as natural rather than synthetic — a crucial distinction in this category.
The palate delivers cream soda and vanilla ice cream flavours with genuine conviction, balanced by the smooth wheat spirit that prevents the sweetness from becoming cloying. At 38% ABV — a shade below the standard 40% — the spirit is fractionally softer than the core Absolut expression, and this lower strength suits the sweet vanilla profile well. The finish is medium in length, with vanilla warmth and gentle butterscotch persisting before a clean close.
Verdict
Absolut Vanilia is a well-made vanilla vodka that strikes an effective balance between flavour and restraint. It is excellent served straight from the freezer, makes a superb White Russian, and provides a reliable vanilla base for cocktail experimentation. At £23.75, it is fairly priced and consistently dependable. Recommended for vanilla vodka enthusiasts.
