Three Olives have carved out a niche in the flavoured vodka market with their range of fruit-forward spirit drinks, and the Pomegranate edition is among their more popular offerings. At 35% ABV, this sits in spirit-drink territory rather than full-strength vodka, and that lower alcohol content shapes the overall experience considerably.
The nose offers sweet pomegranate jam and candied berry, with very little grain presence discernible underneath. This is unashamedly a flavoured product, and it makes no attempt to disguise the fact. On the palate, the pomegranate sweetness is pronounced but tempered by a gentle tartness that keeps things just about balanced.
The litre bottle format represents reasonable value, and this is best understood as a cocktail ingredient rather than a sipping spirit. It works well in a Cosmopolitan riff or simply lengthened with soda and a squeeze of lime. Not a spirit for the purist, but an effective mixer that delivers exactly what it promises.
