Koskenkorva have been making vodka in Finland since the 1950s, using barley grown on their own fields and glacial water of extraordinary purity. Their Blueberry expression applies the same rigorous approach to a flavoured spirit, and the quality shows.
Where many blueberry vodkas taste synthetic and over-sweetened, Koskenkorva's version is natural and restrained. The nose offers fresh blueberry fruit with a hint of forest floor — an earthy, genuinely Nordic character that evokes Finland's vast berry-laden forests. The grain backbone remains clearly present, providing structure and context for the fruit.
On the palate, the blueberry is ripe and juicy but balanced by the clean barley base and a touch of natural acidity that prevents sweetness from overwhelming. The glacial water gives everything a distinctive freshness that is impossible to replicate with treated municipal water. The finish is clean and fruity, without any of the cloying aftertaste that plagues lesser flavoured vodkas.
This is excellent in a simple long drink with tonic or lemonade, and it makes a fine base for a blueberry-forward cocktail. A well-made flavoured vodka from a house with impeccable credentials.
