Heritage & Distillery

Ketel One Citroen takes the exceptional base spirit of the core Ketel One expression and marries it with natural lemon and lime extracts to produce what is, in this reviewer's considered opinion, the finest citrus-flavoured vodka currently available. The Nolet family's three-century distilling heritage is as relevant here as in the unflavoured expression — the quality of the base spirit determines the quality of the flavoured variant, and Ketel One's dual-distillation approach provides a foundation of extraordinary refinement.

Production & Tasting

On the nose, Citroen is bright and naturally citric — genuine lemon and fresh lime zest present with a purity and clarity that immediately distinguish this from mass-market lemon vodkas that rely on synthetic flavourings. The overall impression is of freshly zested citrus fruit rather than citrus-flavoured confectionery, and that distinction is the measure of quality in this category.

The palate is crisp and vibrant, with natural lemon and lime providing the primary flavour framework, a balanced tartness preventing the sweetness from becoming excessive, and the signature Ketel One silky smoothness ensuring continuity with the core expression. The finish is medium-long, with citrus freshness lingering alongside gentle warmth and a dry, clean close.

Verdict

Ketel One Citroen is the gold standard for citrus vodka. The natural lemon and lime extracts are of superb quality, the integration with the base spirit is seamless, and the overall experience is one of genuine sophistication. At £29.25 — a premium of just £2 over the standard Ketel One — it is phenomenal value. The definitive Lemon Drop Martini ingredient. Unreservedly recommended.

Decent vodka for the price. The nose is clean — I got the fresh lime zest that the review mentions — but the palate didn't wow me. The the signature Ketel One silky smoothness is fine but nothing special, and I'd have preferred more character coming through. That said, the gentle warmth is clean enough. Works well in cocktails where you don't need a premium bottle.
