Heritage & Distillery
The second Jeptha Creed expression in this batch represents the fierier side of the Shelbyville distillery's creativity — a 100% corn vodka infused with a deliberate trio of peppers: Serrano for sharp, immediate heat; Jalapeno for rounded warmth and green pepper flavour; and Anaheim for a milder, sweeter chilli character. The addition of garlic provides a savoury, umami dimension that transforms this from a simple spicy vodka into something with genuine culinary depth.
Tasting Notes
The nose is vivid and immediate — fresh green pepper, Serrano chilli heat, garlic, and a vegetal herbaceousness, all overlaying the gentle sweetness of the corn base. On the palate, the pepper heat is bold but layered rather than one-dimensional, with each of the three pepper varieties contributing a different quality of heat and flavour. The garlic adds a savoury depth that grounds the spice, while the corn base provides gentle sweetness and balance. The finish is long and warming with a building but entirely manageable heat, vegetal notes, and a clean pepper fade.
The Serve
This vodka was essentially born to make a Bloody Mary — and it produces a specimen of the cocktail that this reviewer considers among the finest available without further embellishment. It also works well in a spicy Margarita variation or simply over ice with a squeeze of lime for those who appreciate direct, uncomplicated heat.
Verdict
At seven out of ten, Jeptha Creed Hot Pepper Vodka is a well-considered spicy spirit that delivers genuine pepper complexity rather than mere heat. The triple-pepper approach and the garlic addition demonstrate a seriousness of purpose that elevates this above the novelty-spirit category. Purpose-built for the Bloody Mary and highly effective in that role.
