Grey Goose L'Orange extends the French house's premium philosophy into flavoured territory, employing a five-step distillation process that begins with the same Picardy wheat and Gensac spring water used in the core expression before introducing an infusion of orange essence. The approach is characteristically Grey Goose — careful, methodical, and respectful of the base spirit's quality.
Production & Tasting
On the nose, L'Orange is immediately appealing — fresh orange peel and orange blossom present with a delicacy that speaks to the quality of the essence used, supported by the familiar wheat base that prevents the citrus from becoming one-dimensional. The palate is light and crisp, with succulent orange essence providing the primary flavour note, gentle citrus sweetness adding warmth, and the signature Grey Goose silky mouthfeel ensuring that the spirit retains its premium credentials even in flavoured form.
The finish is medium and refreshing, with orange zest lingering before a clean close. This is a flavoured vodka that does not sacrifice the quality of its base spirit in pursuit of its flavouring, and the result is a product of genuine sophistication.
Verdict
Grey Goose L'Orange is a well-made orange vodka that benefits enormously from the quality of its base spirit. It is more subtle than many competitors in the orange-flavoured category, and that subtlety is its strength — this is a spirit for elegant cocktails rather than loud, fruity concoctions. At £44.50, the premium over the standard Grey Goose is modest, and the quality justifies it. Excellent in a Cosmo variation or a Harvey Wallbanger.
