Chase Distillery in Herefordshire has built a formidable reputation for craft spirits, and their Aged Marmalade Vodka is a perfect illustration of why. This is not some synthetic orange concoction — it is a genuinely crafted spirit that tastes exactly like proper Seville orange marmalade, bitter peel and all.
The nose is magnificent. Bright, tangy Seville orange leaps from the glass, accompanied by bitter peel and a gentle toasty sweetness that immediately conjures images of breakfast. On the palate, Chase's signature creamy potato base provides the perfect canvas for the marmalade flavours, which are intense without being cloying.
What elevates this above the legions of flavoured vodkas cluttering supermarket shelves is the quality of both the base spirit and the flavouring. Chase uses their own potatoes, grown on the farm, and the marmalade character is achieved through proper maceration rather than artificial flavourings. The result is a spirit with genuine depth and complexity.
Serve it over ice with a splash of tonic and a twist of orange peel, or use it to elevate a Breakfast Martini to extraordinary heights. At £30.50, it represents excellent value for a spirit of this calibre.
The original limited edition sold out completely, and having tasted it, the fervour is entirely justified. Chase have bottled something genuinely wonderful here.
